Shabbat shalom my dear friends.
There’s a long-read brewing, I swear, but a few thing have been distracting me, like my great friends Olivia and Joanne shaking up in a beautiful bungalow with me in Venice this month, plus work is getting the better of me these last few weeks. So instead of forcing something out that’s not up to snuff, I’ve decided to grace you with another link pack on a Friday, cus why the fuck not.
Before we begin, an important interaction between my editor and I as a reminder that your hobbies are for you and for fun and you should really not make a big deal out of everything. Note to self..
Also real quick, thank you to subscribers and friends, Anson and Kyle for gifting me the two books I mentioned in previous link packs, your contributions to my library mean a lot.
Ok ok ok, here goes, a link pack for you and yours.
As per usual, a ton of incredible jams to share this week thanks almost entirely to Olivia but also a notable jam from new subscriber and friend, Nicole 🙌 and as always a few additions from my editor, friend, and new-music-sherpa, Sean.
With Liv and Jo here, plus the pandemy (seemingly) winding down, I’ve been (mentally) going back to NYC a lot these last few weeks — ultimately and once again, questioning my decision to stay in LA. I know nothing is permanent and also this quote got me wondering.
“Home is not where you are born; home is where all your attempts to escape cease”.
― Naguib Mahfouz
This tweet about Chanel skipping over the entire holocaust that turned into a list of brands that did the same (and those that didn’t). Cool to see these timelines and especially great to see brands like Hugo Boss own up to their history in a way.
If you really love me, you’ll gift me one (if not this one or this one) of Bella McGoldrick’s pieces. Funny enough, I discovered her accidentally through an insta ad that stopped me because she was wearing an Old Pal bandana. IYKYK.
A little tiny bit obsessed with this collaborative, album that Matt Maeson and producer, Rozwell released together called USERx.
Stumbled on this Pitchfork Live session ft. Khruangbin accompanied by Drippy Eye Projection. I noted it as “very chill background music for sleepy Saturday email pruning vibes.” Enjoy.
Contemplate your existence for a few minutes. I was very high while watching this, I highly recommend you follow suit.
Another quote that hit home.
“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and being alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You have to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes too near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.”

And that my friends, was too much to text.
ditto on "supposed to be fun" and "say NO to neurosis!" (should be a hashtag) :)
