This is a list of things that's a little late
Maya Angelou, stanky-face jams, Mac Miller, Blade Runner and some soup
It has been an absolutely wild week and at the time of writing this, it’s only Tuesday.
Real quick, here’s Maya Angelou with the truth.
Most people don’t grow up
Most people don’t grow up. It’s too damn difficult. What happens is most people get older. That’s the truth of it. They honor their credit cards, they find parking spaces, they marry, they have the nerve to have children, but they don’t grow up. Not really. They get older. But to grow up costs the earth, the earth. It means you take responsibility for the time you take up, for the space you occupy. It’s serious business. And you find out what it costs us to love and to lose, to dare and to fail. And maybe even more, to succeed. What it costs, in truth.
— Maya Angelou
Aight, let’s do this.
A few bops made it onto the TMTT Jams playlist in the last couple weeks, fall in love with this one (stank face recommended), this one, and help me decide between version one and version two of the same song cus I def can’t.
Not really a fan of International Women’s Day, so for all the other folks out there who feel weird about it, watch Amy Poehler’s Moxie and feel a little better, or at least a lot more empowered. #GRLPWR
Listened to (and watched) this NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert featuring Mac Miller (and this incredible man). I only really discovered Mac after he passed, which sucks, but glad I found him eventually.
I’ve tried to read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” (the book that Blade Runner is based on) and struggled through it, but adored Dune and these epic poster designs by Panos Tsironis reminded me of the alternate-dystopian-universe genre that I love so dearly.
Here’s another book that I’d be down to read if someone wanted to get me a gift for my half birthday, which btw was on March 8th.
Some of you know that I tried to ocean swim in LA in the middle of winter. That was brutal. This interview inspired me to give it another go.
A friend and fellow TMTT subscriber sent me this episode on Frank Lloyd Wright’s work, primarily focused on his time in LA and the uniquely inspired buildings he worked on. If you’re into architecture, this is very much worth the watch.
Cold Pastoral, a story written about a girl who discovers her hook-up’s journal after he passes away, written by a girl who coincidentally and quite tragically died in a car accident.
Still wondering what the fuck happened with GameStop and Robinhood? This interview with a former bond trader shines some light on who, what, why and how this whole fiasco went down but in layman’s terms.
They’re telling all their friends that there’s this game out there with a weak boss. And they’re going to attack that boss. Because they’re gamers. And gamers play.
Didn’t have a recipe for the end of last week’s write up, but another friend and fellow TMTT subscriber shared one of his to make up for it. Don’t worry, the preface is short 😉
And that my friends, was too much to text.
